Indications for hyaluronic acid injections to treat under-eye circles
Under-eye circle can begin to appear around the age of thirty. The area becomes hollow in the inner corner of the eye, at the level of the lower eyelid and sometimes between the cheekbones and the nose (tear trough).
Note: hyaluronic acid does not treat coloured circles. The purple-ish colour is due to the colour of the muscle which is visible through the thin skin of the eyelid. Brown colouration is due to localised hyperpigmentation.
How does hyaluronic acid treat under-eye circles?
Hyaluronic acid is an essential component of the skin. It is hydrophilic, meaning that it attracts and fixes water. In this way, it gives the skin hydration, thickness, firmness and elasticity. It is biocompatible which means it is extremely well tolerated by the body. In any case, it will be totally broken down by the body’s natural elimination process after a certain period of time. It is practically antiallergenic, except in exceptional cases.
How does the hyaluronic acid injection session for under-eye circles take place?
The practitioner administers very precise injections of hyaluronic acid under the circles. Thanks to its volumizing power, the hyaluronic acid will rebuild lost volume and visibly boost the skin below the eyelid. The hollow of the circle disappears. To optimise the effect of the product, Dr Gauthier often chooses to deeply inject it, at the bone level. This technique recreates a homogenous and natural looking volume.
The doctor will administer precise quantities of hyaluronic acid in specific areas. The aim is to create uniform volume, with a natural appearance, and especially not to “over-inject”. It is essential to not “over-inflate” the area. On this point, the expertise and experience of the doctor are of the utmost importance.
Effects of treatment of under-eye circles with hyaluronic acid injections
The procedure does not require anaesthetic. Usually, the patient can immediately resume their social activities without interruption. The procedure lasts approximately 10 minutes. The results are optimum after approximately a week, and the benefits are maintained for 12 to 24 months, according to each case.
When will the results appear?
In the hours following the procedure slight redness can appear on the injection points. In some cases, a bruise or swelling can occur. They will disappear naturally in a few days and in a maximum of 8 days. A little makeup is enough to cover them if necessary.
The final result can be seen after approximately 10 days. At that time, a follow-up consultation is possible to assess the procedure and, if necessary, carry out fine retouching.
