LIGHT THERAPY

One of the greatest discoveries of the last few years in rejuvenation and beautification through gentle, non-traumatising methods is that light, of different intensities and colours, has targeted regenerative and reparative effects which are beneficial to skin quality and health.

LEDS (LIGHT-EMITTING DIODES)

Also known as cold light, these extremely gentle lights give a more radiant and healthy skin. They guarantee excellent maintenance of the skin and fight against the daily, damaging effects of ageing.

Functioning of LED light therapy

The LED light waves penetrate the cells at the heart of the skin in order to stimulate them and make them function like young cells again.

There are numerous benefits to LED treatment: accelerating tissue reproduction, improving the workings of cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin fibres (fibroblasts), improving blood circulation, draining toxins and improving skin healing.

Indications for LED light therapy

LEDs produce different waves lengths, depending on the colour chosen.

  • Red light is most often used because it can penetrate deepest into the skin. It stimulates the fibroblasts and increases production of collagen and elastin fibres.
  • Blue light attacks bacteria present in acne pimples, therefore helping to disperse them.
  • Yellow light has a draining and anti-oedema effect because it improves blood and lymphatic circulation. It also soothes redness.
  • Green light reduces pigment spots, improving the radiance of the skin.

The structure of the LED light therapy session

After establishing the area to be treated with you, the doctor will apply LED light to it for 20-30 minutes.

This light does not emit UV rays or heat and therefore does not present any risk of burns, cancer or photo-ageing.

The initial results are visible after 6-8 sessions. It is recommended to regularly renew the treatment to ensure long-lasting results.

PULSED LIGHT (PALOMAR)

Pulsed Light (Palomar) removes unsightly spots and small vessels that appear over time. These small defects are often responsible for a “dull” and/or greyish complexion.

Operation of pulsed light

Like LED photorejuvenation, pulsed light emits light waves that penetrate damaged tissue. The light waves go through the epidermis without damaging it and create heat.

The heat emitted particularly targets:

  • Skin pigments, to remove dark spots
  • Micro vessels, to reduce rosacea redness
  • Fibroblasts, to stimulate collagen production

Indications for pulsed light

Pulsed light is particularly used in aesthetic medicine to smooth, strengthen and plump up the skin. The light waves stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

Pulsed light is also effective for treating sun spots and age spots.

The structure of the pulsed light session

The pulsed light photorejuvenation session lasts 20-45 minutes. The results begin to appear after a few weeks.

In order to make the effect of pulsed light last longer, it is recommended to take care of the skin by regularly applying UV protection and moisturising daily. It is also advised to renew the treatment every 6-12 months.

FRACTIONAL LASER

Fractional lasers are said to be “non-ablative” because they do not destroy the deep layers of the skin (technology used at Fraxel™). They allow regeneration of the entire treated skin surface by strengthening it with new collagen and elastin.

How does fractional laser treatment work?

The fractional laser emits a light that is invisible to the naked eye, which penetrates the skin and creates microscopic dots. These dots, located between the pores, will heal, making the skin smoother and more uniform. Wrinkles and fine lines are also smoothed.

The heat of the laser also encourages the production of collagen, which plumps up and tightens the skin.

Indications for fractional laser treatment

The main use of fractional laser treatment in aesthetics is to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, but it can also be effective in other cases:

  • Treatment of acne scars
  • Treatment of oily skin with seborrheic tendency
  • Treatment of dark spots

The structure of the fractional laser session

The fractional laser session lasts around 30 minutes. The results are visible after 2-4 sessions, each one month apart.
